Micronedling Guidelines

Please refer to these instructions for your microneedling treatment. The microneedling consent form is below.

Pre Treatment Guidelines

To prepare for microneedling, avoid sun exposure, retinoids, and exfoliating acids for 1–2 weeks prior to boost safety and results. Stop taking anti-inflammatory meds and blood thinners (like aspirin) 3 days before to minimize bruising. Arrive with clean, product-free skin and avoid shaving on the day of.

Skin & Medication Precautions (1-2 Weeks Prior)

  • Avoid Sun Exposure: Protect your skin from the sun to prevent sunburn or increased sensitivity.

  • Stop Retinoids & Acids: Avoid products containing retinoids, retinol, tretinoin, and acids (salicylic, glycolic) for at least 3-7 days.

  • Pause Medications: Avoid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen and aspirin for 3 days before, as they can increase bruising.

  • No Active Acne Treatments: Stop using strong acne medications or benzoyl peroxide.

  • Avoid Other Treatments: Refrain from laser, waxing, or Botox for 2 weeks.

  • Accutane: Do not use Accutane (isotretinoin) for 6 months prior.

Day of Appointment Prep

  • Clean Skin: Arrive with a clean face, free of makeup, lotion, or oils.

  • Avoid Shaving: Do not shave the treated area on the day of to prevent irritation.

  • Hydrate: Ensure you are well-hydrated to help skin healing.

  • Pain Relief: You may take acetaminophen 1 hour before if advised by your provider for comfort.

Health & Lifestyle Considerations

  • Sunscreen: Wear SPF 30+ daily in the weeks leading up to the session.

  • Avoid Alcohol/Smoking: Stop 24 hours prior to prevent excessive bruising.

  • Skin Condition: If you have an active cold sore or skin infection, you may need to reschedule.

  • Prepare for Downtime: Expect some redness and swelling, so avoid major social events for 1-2 days.
